my last night in las vegas
I spent the past week staying at Bellagio. It’s one of my favorite places I’ve ever been to. The rooms are awesome, the staff is great, the place itself has a vibe to it that I really like, and I really enjoy the food. That last part doesn’t mean much, since I eat a narrower variety of food than a 5 year old, but hey, it’s good, so I’m happy.
This week went by ridiculously fast. I’ve spent around 3 of the past 5 weeks living at Bellagio or Foxwoods and I’m ready to go home again and just grind (both poker and Fallout3, heh). I spent this week hanging out with a bunch of different people and working on a new project which I’m really excited about and finally able to announce in a few days.
On Saturday night, I went to FatalError’s apartment to watch the Couture/Lesnar fight with JC Alvarado, Steve O’Dwyer, Scott Seiver, Aaron Been, Jon Aguiar, and a few other guys. It was disappointing to see Couture lose, but, what can you do. Howard Lederer told me he was gonna try to get a FTP patch on Randy, and I was surprised and super pleased to see him get it – anything that gets poker positive exposure is cool by me, and I can’t think of a better guy to smack a logo on than Randy Couture.
After the fight, a few of us went back to hang out at JC Alvarado’s place and spent a couple more hours there, watching old fights and just relaxing. It was a pretty cool time hanging out with those guys, they’re all a very chill, laid back group, and they’re all sick talented poker players too. The worst part about living away from poker players in a place like NY is that I don’t get to spend much time just hanging out with a lot of my poker friends, and it’s definitely something I wish I could do more often.
I played a light sunday schedule of tournaments and didn’t do anything. I felt like I could make a run at the FTOPS but just never got going. It’s tough to play a full schedule of stuff when you’re on the road, nevermind on west coast time, and I’m looking forward to booking a week or two of near full-time tournaments at home.
Although on Monday I had one of the most fun nights I’ve had in awhile (maybe I’ll blog about it later on), I mostly spent this week working on some stuff I had to do while I was in Vegas. For now, my time living at Bellagio is over. I’ll probably be coming back in a few weeks for WPT 5 Diamond, so it’s not like they’re going to miss my at least once-daily orders for a mixed green salad with just iceberg lettuce and no tomatos or endive with red wine vinegar and plain turkey sandwiches. It’s definitely time to go when the room service people know me well enough to guess if it’ll be a cheeseburger or a turkey sandwich with my salad when I order.
Back to New York in the morning.
